Parent's Information Evening

Hi Guys,

We are delighted to announce before our return to classes in September, we will be running a parent’s information evening. This will aim to provide information on each class within the club and the development pathway we have within the club.

This will also act as an official homecoming for the Bar Monkey Athletes that represented Ireland at the World Calisthenics Championships!

As an overview for the event, we aim to cover the following:

Athlete’s Homecoming

We will start off the evening by welcoming our athlete’s home from the World Championships! We will then provide some footage of the event and their performance, aiming to give everyone a feel of what went on over the week for the athletes. Afterwards we will ask the athlete’s questions on the event, and get an idea of their perceptions of the overall experience.

This will be a really informative experience, and for parent’s and our young members within the club this is a great opportunity to hear more about the sport and what international competitions look like, what the sport looks like, and will give all our young members aspirations to want to do the same, and replicate our current athlete’s. Of the four from the club to have qualified, three of them are only 14 years old. Will and Dan are the two youngest ever athletes to compete in the World Championship - while Leah is the FIRST Female from Ireland to compete in the event! Aaron is one of our lead coaches in the club and he will be competing in the power category this year. Each one will have their own take and experience of the World Championship, and it promises to be a really intriguing and enjoyable discussion with all of them!

Club Development Pathway

The second part of the evening will see us discuss the development pathway within the club, aiming to expand upon the aims within each class category and how they are structured, and why. We will also show the movements they work on ( no demonstrations will be required! ). This can hopefully help to expand the understanding among parents and coaches around what our development plan is and where your child may fit into that.

At the end we will leave the floor open to any questions you may have, either for coaches or the athletes.

We hope to see you all there for what promises to be a great evening full of discussion and insight into the sport!

Entry is free but for seating purposes we ask you complete a registration form below:

Opportunities for Physical Activity in a Built Environment

We are delighted to announce we will be running a one hour discussion workshop focused on highlighting how the built environment we live in impacts our opportunities for physical activity.

The aim from the workshop will be to provide further information and discussion on the built environment, and potential ways in which we can help young people increase their physical activity levels.

This workshop will be hosted by our Head Coach, Jamie Geraghty, currently an MSc student in Applied Sport and Exercise Psychology, with the overall aim to show how the built environment our young people grow up in influences their ability to be physically active.

‘‘If we can create an awareness of potential barriers and facilitators to physical activity then we are in a better position to help young people increase their activity levels and improve their overall health’’

Throughout the discussion, Jamie aims to provide further insight, particularly for parents of young people, on what opportunities we may have that can help us incorporate incidental activity throughout the day, allowing physical activity to become part of a young person’s lifestyle.

We hope to see you there!

Registration is free, however, due to limited spaces we ask everyone completes a form below to confirm their place.
